At Radiant Rural, we support projects that provide early childhood development and education in rural villages. We build small but well-equipped daycare centres and schools, with essential facilities including classrooms, kitchens, toilets and secure fencing. Our goal is to create safe, welcoming and supportive learning environments where children can learn, play and grow close to their homes.
Chui Daycare & Learning Centre was created after the founders of Radiant Rural identified the need for a safe and supportive place for children in Kinyangiri Village.
During a visit to the village in 2020, we noticed that many young children had no access to an early childhood development centre or a safe place to play and learn. This inspired us to find a solution.
Fortunately, we discovered the ruins of an unfinished building in the centre of the village. We decided to explore whether the building could be renovated and transformed into a school.
After assessing the building, we found that it could be renovated and developed. This encouraged us to take action and begin the construction of the first school in the village.
What started as an unfinished building has now become Chui Daycare & Learning Centre; safe place where children can learn, play and grow close to home.
Another essential part of the construction was the provision of clean water and appropriate sanitation facilities.
For a daycare centre, water and sanitation are extremely important.
Children need clean drinking water and safe toilets. Handwashing facilities are also essential because they help reduce the spread of infections and teach children good hygiene habits.
The construction team therefore had to ensure that the centre included appropriate sanitation facilities.
The aim was to create an environment where children could gradually learn to take responsibility for their personal hygiene.
Teachers could teach children simple but important habits such as washing their hands before eating, after using the toilet, and after playing outside.
In this way, the building itself would become part of the children's education.
The construction of the fence began with preparation of the area surrounding the centre.
The boundaries of the property were identified and measured carefully to determine the exact position and length of the fence.
The school fence was constructed with concrete and fence posts.
Our community saw this as another sign that the centre was serious and was taking shape to become the leading education provider in the village.
We continued to equip our school with furniture, installations, fittings, and all the necessary facilities to ensure the smooth operation of the school.
As of today, Chui Daycare & Learning Centre has three classrooms, two toilets, a kitchen, a courtyard, a washing area, and a big garden.
The school is also equipped with a waste management furnace within its premises.
Apart from the buildings, the school has running water, access to electricity, and gardens.
